Zofia K. Aue was born and brought up in Poland, and emigrated with her husband to Canada in 1973. She now makes her home in Nova Scotia. Zofia was educated in her native country and worked as a biochemist, first in the Fisheries Institute in Warsaw and then in the USA. Her love affair with visual arts started when one Christmas her husband presented her with a box of acrylic paints. Soon painting became her full-time occupation and passion. Zofia developed unique ways of seeing the beauty of Nova Scotia and its landscapes. At present she works and teaches in her "Studio Bay" at the Head of St. Margaret's Bay. Her primary painting experience is in oil, acrylic and pastel; she has also experimented with behind-glass paintings. Zofia took part in numerous solo and group exhibitions and received several awards for her paintings. Her work is found in many private collections in North America, Europe and Japan. Painting, whether it be still-life, portrait or landscape, is a way of communicating without words. This transcendence through art of an object or a living thing is her greatest joy.
