Zibby Kwiatek  was born and educated in Poland. He left Poland in January 1987 at the age of 24 and for next 28 months lived in Rome, Italy, where his adventures in photography began. Countless hours spent roaming this beautiful, historic city inspired his artistic spirit and ensured that the medium of photography would become an integral part of his life.

In May 1989 he left Italy to immigrate to Canada and eventually arrived in Halifax, Nova Scotia, where he quickly found a new home..

Zibby works as a skilled welder at the Halifax Shipyard and is involved with his Union the CAW/MWF (Marine Worker’s Federation) Local 1, for which he created a newsletter called “The Marine Worker” , named in tribute to J.K. Bell’s 1943 publication of the same name. Present with his trusted Canon at every Union event, he records his Union’s life and times, which he faithfully shares in his publications.

The two major influences on Zibby’s photographic career were Wojtek Marks and Eric Boutilier-Brown. Wojtek and his wife Maria were his photographic companions in Italy and Wojtek’s presence further sharpened his interest in photography. Eric, the owner and operator of Photoworkshops.ca, is another chapter altogether. After Zibby participated in a couple of seminars organized by Eric he began to gain a much deeper understanding of his own capabilities. He and Eric are still working together.

Photographing people is Zibby’s main interest, but as any good photographer should be, he is open to and aware of what is happening around him, and is always ready for a new photographic study
